- “Fanon in Palestine: The Struggle for Justice as the Core of Mental Health”
This paper by Drs Samah Jabr and Elizabeth Berger is, truly, essential reading. Fanon, a psychiatrist committed to social and racial justice and to a universal humanism, exposing the psychological consequences of the coloniser-colonised relationship, has long been as an inspiration to engaged health workers. Jabr and Berger here provide an inspirational Fanonian survey of mental health work to Palestine, with sections on the clinic, research, and solidarity activism by the mental health community. It successfully locates, contextualises and frames the work of the Palestine Global Mental Health Network, and those international Networks working in solidarity.
The paper forms a chapter in a new book, Fanon Today: Reason and Revolt of the Wretched of the Earth’, edited by Nigel Gibson and issued by socialist publisher Daraja Press. To maximise accessibility, purchasers determine how much they can afford to pay – ‘from each according to his ability’! Along with this paper, there are a further 23 chapters… Available here:
