Israeli forces have carried out deliberate, controlled demolitions of homes and civilian infrastructure, including in areas where they have apparent aims of creating “buffer zones” and security “corridors,” from which Palestinians are likely to be permanently displaced. Contrary to claims by Israeli officials, their actions do not comply with the laws of war. https://www.hrw.org/news/2024/11/14/israels-crimes-against-humanity-gaza Two Palestinians die in ‘catastrophic conditions’ in Israeli prison Two Palestinian monitoring groups have warned of “catastrophic conditions” in Israeli jails after the recent deaths of two prisoners. The Family Therapists for Palestine group was established at the end of October 2023, currently has around ninety members and meets approximately once a month. There is also a google group through which members can exchange ideas and information. We have taken various initiatives, such as encouraging our association (AFT) to take a more robust ethical stance on the genocide and challenging a statement the Chair and Chief Executive published on the anniversary of October 7th which failed even to mention Palestine. We have written a response to this signed by fifty AFT members which will be published in the next edition of Context (the magazine for family therapy and systemic practice in the UK). We will distribute this text after it is published. A group of five of us was invited to submit an article on Gaza to the Journal of Family Therapy and this has recently been submitted. A very successful webinar was held on October 21st featuring the Palestinian psychotherapist, Dr Yo’ad Ghanadry Hakim and a panel of systemic therapists, which was attended by 300 people. We were also signatories to the statement by Mental Health practitioners published in Middle East Eye on October 18th called ‘As mental health workers, we call for an end to the West’s collusion with Israel’ https://www.middleeasteye.net/opinion/gaza-war-uk-mental-health-workers-west-end-collusion-israel If anyone would like to join our group, please contact: Gwyn Daniel danielgwyn@gmail.com Open letter to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy requesting a public statement regarding the attacks on healthcare provision in Gaza As registered members, we urge the BACP to issue a public statement regarding the current situation affecting hospitals in Gaza.
