Detained Gaza doctor Abu Safiya in critical condition, lawyer says
Source: Middle East Eye
Date: 13 July
The health of Dr Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Gaza’s Kamal Adwan Hospital, has severely deteriorated in Israeli detention in Israel’s infamous Ofer prison, his lawyer said in a statement on social media. Israeli forces arrested Abu Safiya on 27 December from the hospital in Beit Lahia in north Gaza, which was left out of service following Israeli attacks. All medical staff, patients, and their relatives were taken out of the hospital at gunpoint, forced to strip down to their underwear. Remaining in solitary confinement, Abu Safiya has lost more than 40kg (88 pounds) since his arrest and was reportedly beaten on 24 June, his lawyer said. He was denied medical care despite requesting treatment for injuries to his ribs, face and back, as well as for irregular cardiology test results.

Psychoanalytic Hub for Online Liberatory Education (new web resource)
Source: P-HOLE
Date: July 2025
Let’s face it: traditional models of psychoanalysis have too often failed minoritised people. Sometimes this is a matter of the unreflective ways psychoanalytic theory and practice presume whiteness, heterosexuality, binary gender, non-disabled status, and middle-class (if not upper-middle-class) economic background. This can result in epistemic and ethical gaps in which non-normative subjects speak but cannot be heard within the terms of traditional psychoanalysis – whether as patients, candidates, or colleagues. When psychoanalysts cannot reckon with the social context that is already in the consulting room or the educational institute, they implicitly uphold systems of domination. They also diminish the extraordinary capacity and complexity of psychoanalysis to move in the spaces between outside and inside, the social and the psychic.

FEATURED ACTION
Red Line for Gaza
Source: Oxfam UK
Date: July 2025
A digital, online action
Starving people. Killing civilians. Targeting children. An entire population could be facing erasure. We have all watched in horror as Israel crosses red line after red line in Gaza. Together we say: enough. Let’s speak out, in our masses, right now.
Your photo will help create a powerful image we’ll share during upcoming days of action for Gaza – a clear message from people across the country: this is our red line. This isn’t just symbolic. It’s our collective voice against the horrors being inflicted on people in Gaza – a public stand against the UK’s role, and a demand for justice.
