War crimes, crimes against humanity and violations of international humanitarian and human rights law

EVENTS

UKPALMHN Solidarity Space
Monday 1 July at 1 pm UK time
The Action Half-Hour will reincarnate as a Solidarity Space for mutual support and information sharing. The meeting on Monday 1 July will focus on the issue of “vicarious trauma” (strategies to remain resilient and persistent in a stream of never-ending horrific news and images). The group is also interested in a future discussion about inter-generational trauma. The Space will open for 30 minutes, after which there will be some music. Thereafter it will remain available for anyone who wishes to continue the discussion informally.

Please write to ukpalmhn@gmail.com if you would like a link to the Solidarity Space.

Online actions will continue to be added on a rolling basis to the UKPALMHN website and old actions will continue to be available on the same page:

Election Resources
We have created an Election Resources page. We do not endorse any specific candidates or parties but simply present Palestine-related election news that may not be reported in mainstream media. The items are listed in the order in which we become aware of them.

War crimes, crimes against humanity and violations of international humanitarian and human rights law’
The Chair of the U.N. Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory has carried out two parallel investigations: first, into attacks by Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups in Israel on 7 and 8 October and, second, into Israeli military operations and attacks in Gaza between 7 October and 31 December.

In relation to Israel’s military operations in Gaza, the Commission concluded that Israeli authorities were responsible for war crimes, crimes against humanity and violations of international humanitarian and human rights law. Israel’s total siege of the Gaza Strip has weaponised the provision of life-sustaining necessities for strategic and political gains, including through cutting off water, food, electricity, fuel and other essential supplies, including humanitarian assistance. The Commission found Israeli forces committed sexual and gender-based violence with the intent to humiliate and further subordinate the Palestinian community.

The report also found that Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups committed war crimes on October 7 during their attacks on southern Israel (this material can be found through the same link).

This is a 2 ½ minute video shows the Chair of the Commission of Inquiry summarising Israel’s crimes. It is quite chilling to see these crimes named in a systematic and dispassionate manner.

Running Amok
‘”What is wrong with the Israelis?” The question as I have heard it asked, with emphasis on the word wrong, is raised not in response to footage of the genocidal death and destruction the IDF has wrought upon Gaza but to what [social media] crumbs Israeli soldiers themselves have shared of it …’

Israeli academic accuses his country of genocide in Gaza
A prominent Israeli academic has accused his country of committing genocide on Palestinians in Gaza. Lee Mordechai, a professor of history at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (currently on sabbatical at Princeton University), has spent the past eight months researching and analysing Israel’s retaliatory military campaign. He states:
‘The enormous amount of evidence I have seen […] has been enough for me to believe that Israel is currently committing genocide against the Palestinian population in Gaza’ . He accuses Israel of attempting “to cause the death of the civilian population of Gaza”.

Aid workers try to treat trauma under worst possible conditions
The closure of Gaza’s crossings presents the biggest challenge. Vast numbers of children cannot receive the medicine they need. Aid workers in Gaza are themselves traumatised and exhausted.
‘It’s painful when it’s out of our hands,” Ismail said. “We simply can’t deal with this trauma any more.’

States and companies must end arms transfers to Israel immediately or risk responsibility for human rights violations: UN experts
The transfer of weapons and ammunition to Israel may constitute serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian laws and risk State complicity in international crimes, possibly including genocide, UN experts said today, reiterating their demand to stop transfers immediately.
The report names companies sending weapons, components and ammunition as well as financial institutions investing in these companies.

Deluge: Gaza and Israel, from crisis to cataclysm
Review of a new book
The conflict in Gaza started on 7 October – or so Israel and much western media would still have us believe. It is so much nonsense, as this new publication makes abundantly clear in a number of essays by leading Palestinian, Israeli, and international authorities who put the genocidal conflict we are witnessing into an analytical and historical context.

The Collapse of Zionism
We are witnessing a historical process – or, more accurately, the beginnings of one – that is likely to culminate in the downfall of Zionism. And, [according to Ilan Pappé] if my diagnosis is correct, then we are also entering a particularly dangerous conjuncture. For once Israel realises the magnitude of the crisis, it will unleash ferocious and uninhibited force to try to contain it, as did the South African apartheid regime during its final days.

Developments within the International Federation of Social Workers
The Palestinian Union of Social Workers and Psychologists recently made a statement in which they called on the the International Federation to take measures against their member organisation in Israel, the Israeli Union of Social Workers. The Palestinian Union’s position is that the Israeli Union should be expelled from the International Federation, or have their membership frozen.

The Yemeni Union of Social Workers and Psychologists have now published a statement in support of this position:

The Jordanian Association of Social Workers have also demanded that the Israeli Union’s membership is frozen.
The International Federation published this response to the Palestinian Union on 11 June:

ACTION: Help save the Tent of Nations
A message from the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD)
The Tent of Nations needs our immediate support due to increasing settler activity on their land and their forthcoming court case scheduled for 2 July 2024 when its status is to be determined.
Tent of Nations is located on a hilltop between Hebron and Bethlehem and has been in the family since 1916. Over the years, five settlements have been constructed which surround it and the Israeli government claimed ownership of the land which has resulted in the Nasser family being in a legal battle for 34 years despite having all the legal documents to prove ownership.
Write to the British Consulate in Jerusalem asking them to support the Nassar family’s case. Please use this template email:
